One as in The One not Mick's project (although that is good too) Ever checked out Yyrkoon? their new album is like a very dm Zyklon and their older stuff is a blend of old school dm/thrash metal. Prob the only band from France atm that I like.

oh and forgot! About deceased, you can pick up a boxset of like 2/3 of their early cds now from HMV/Virgin etc, ain't bought it myself but will do. Deceased are ace if you like clean vocals but dm music, really original (except for the lyrics, thats just pure zombies)

Very tempted by the Deceased.
The One is great, took me AGES to get into it though. If you like Bathory or any of the Greek BM bands then you should check out his other project Macabre Omen, whose album 'The Ancient Returns' is stellar stuff.

USBM is a varied beast to be sure - I'm very keen on Leviathan and Krieg - Really enjoyed the last Velvet Caccoon album too. On the other hand, a lot of Xasthur stuff, and all the stuff that has sprung up in its (his?) wake, bores me to tears.
If you don't mind right-wing politics, Grand Belial's Key and Arghoslent are fucking incredible bands - very heavy metal influenced with GBK tending slightly more towards BM and Arghoslent towards DM.

Have you heard of Urgehal? They're at UTBS this year, which I'm very much looking forward to. It looks like I'm doing their website too

Through Thick Fog Til Death is a great record! I haven't heard any other stuff though, how does it compare?
Sadly I'm going to miss UTBS due to cash shortages and my inability so far to find work - I'm gutted about missing Krieg but the amount of bands I'd like to see is rapidly diminishing now that Antaeus, Witchmaster and Tsjuder have pulled out.

Man Arsis are like the emo of death metal!! hehehe oh yes I said it..EMO! the songs aren't too bad, a few chugging riffs but the lyrics and just layout of the music is pure rubbish
