That Burzum riff was not ripped off, its off Filosefum and i hadnt even heard it when i wrote the song. Also, all it is is an arpeggiated A chord, easy coincidence, its hardly like Kanwulf pinching that Black Metal Ist Kreig riff from Strid (check Strid out if you havent, i have heard only one track and was quite impressed, i had it sent to me because off the riff pinching). Finally Kriegwar and Ethnikk Purikkation - well, Ethinikk Purikkation wont ever be released, and im not too sure about Kriegwar, they are projects of Narqath (Azaghal, Wyrd), try those two bands if you want and you havent heard them and ill ask about Kriegwar. It's not just the fact that the notes are the same but, much like Nargaroth, that it sounds EXACTLY like it - you really hadn't heard Filosofem?! What style are those two bands in? Wyrd is pretty cool, Hellkult and Azaghal are fairly hit and miss. If it won't ever be released, how pray would one get to hear it?

Luke, Chainsaw is FUCKING killer stuff! I'm going to have to order the album soon! If you like them, you might enjoy Midnight. www.shiftyrecords.com has samples. Satan's Penguins actually soon OK, quite interesting, although joke metal is usually abhorrent to me - there's a fine line between having a sense of humour (which is obviously great) and being a joke. Edit : Perhaps I should clarify - I don't hate death metal, just boring, clean, technical-for-the-sake-of-it DM. Incantation, Immolation, Sargatanas, Morbid Angel, Massacre, Obituary, Pestilence, Death, etc. are all great.

Glad you liked the Chainsaw! You can get the Cd from Grindethic pretty cheap, thats what I did - it was Suni who put me onto it. I'll check out these Midnight dudes. The Satans Penguins is a weird one - I don't like joke metal either, its pretty pathetic usually, but these guys are much better than their name suggests. They've got some really interesting songs but its better if you don't look at the song titles or lyrics to them

Wyrd is pretty cool, Hellkult and Azaghal are fairly hit and miss. If it won't ever be released, how pray would one get to hear it? I REALLY hadnt heard Filosofem, i would not knowingly rip off a riff, especially a riff where a whole song is based around that particular riff (or is it 2 songs from what i remember?). Ethnikk Purikkation isnt a serious project, but its hilarious, but i was wondering if you had heard it because from the other replys here you seem to know a lot of bands. I havent been able to find out about Kriegwar just yet. How about Oath Of Cirion? Another project from Narqath. I cant really help to be honest, i dont get hold of lots of stuff because i dislike most derivative, samey uninspiring music, so when i find an album i like i tend to cling to it.

Hehe, I listen to plenty of derivative albums that are very inspiring stuff! There is loads of good music out there, it just takes some searching! Most Darkthrone clones are bollocks, but there are some like Pest (Swe), Graven and maybe even Katharsis (at least in sound) that fucking rule.

Have you heard Mortifera? I recommend Vastiia Tenebrd Mortifera, its has some good mournful melodies in there. From France.

There is a German Pest who are excellent and quite unique, a Swedish Pest who are very Darkthrone inspired, but in a very powerful way and a Finnish Pest, who didn't strike me as much out of the ordinary.
I have the first Mortifera EP and I wasn't as impressed as I hoped I'd be - I think Celestia are far superior.

Chainsaw... is that the Smell The Saw album? Excellent if it is! I have to recommend Cranium too!

The very one, fucking awesome! I second Tom's Cranium recommendation but finding the albums is basically impossible.

Not entirely unlike anything by Murder One *sigh* When will people learn that sludge is good as an aside, when the fuck is my Red Harvest album going to arrive? Ordered it ages ago from Townsend Records, has anyone else experienced their ultimate shitness before?
