So I join the facebook group, thinking "somebodies took my suggestion of setting a night up there forward. Ace", only to find that they're advertising nu-metal on the posters.

So, I post on the group page:

"Is this a proper metal night like Bilskirnir was, or is it more like Scrubculture? Just out of interest."

And the response?

"Its defo a metal night, but none of that black metal!!"

I'm a politically correct human. I tolerate blacks, muslims, gays in the millitary, transsexual schoolteachers and paedophile babysitters (not really about the muslims, of course ), but A NEW METAL NIGHT THAT REFUSES TO PLAY BLACK METAL?!!!

ARE THEY TAKING THE FUCKING PISS?!!!

It's a Tabloid, front-page-of-the-sun, stone-cold fucking OUTREEEEAGE!!

So I posted back:

Well, frankly that's a bit retarded. What exactly is the problem with Black Metal? I suppose you don't play death metal either? too scary?

For such a supposed metal night it sounds a lot like the attitude of places like the Academy.

Looks like we've got another psuedo-metal night on our hands. Nights like that can't hold a candle to Reanimator or Bilskirnir. Neither were exclusively death or black metal nights, but they weren't afraid to play proper extreme music alongside other general metal, and they weren't short on attendances either. Noj can attest to that.

Meh nights like this in Birmingham are a dime a dozen. Atleast its free entry . No different then going to Scruffies/Coaster's then paying to Snubculture/Subside/Eddies.

This night looks totally bent, but in fairness to them they're not claiming to be anything else and I'm sure they'll have a good time so all power to them.

The problem with having a night that plays a lot of black and death metal or is otherwise pretty underground is that you'll end up with 15 people who love it and nobody else will give a shit. Its all well and good until the venue start asking why they're running it when they could be packing the place out with something that'll appeal to the masses.

I'm sure they'll play some Dimmu Borgir for you Steve, thats black metal, right?

I was in the Square Peg on Saturday and some purple-haired, retarded barman told me to check this night out then proceeded to ask me if I'm into 'old school rock like the Deftones'?

its actually the sporran itself that has set it up so if they were not taking enough business in it would have happened anyway they cancelled 2 of my bookings and a shit load of others that were going on

If it's mainly a nu-metal night then I doubt they're poseurs at all, they're probably really into it. Creating our own metal night would have paid no dividends as there would have been three men and a dog there most of the time.
