not really, terrorizer has taken a dive over the last couple of years, Zero Tolerance is much better along with loads of online webzines which review more then just the mainstream/well known metal bands.

It obviously completely depends on what you are after. Helpful, I know.

Flick through a couple of issues and see what you personally think, but the general consensus is that Terrorizer is in serious decline nowdays: it's packed with stuff about hardcore and punk bands, sucks up to certain bands whilst ignoring others, their reviews are less than helpful in nearly all cases and is generally a total waste of space. ZT is a bit better although its review pages are also worthless as they rarely give anyone anything but a good score! Your best bet really is webzines - I can only really suggest gore / grindcore ones but surf around until you find one you like...

I'm going to disagree - in my opinion Terrorizer is the best printed metal magazine you can buy. Zero Tolerance is poorly written and poorly researched. Terrorizer on the other hand is pretty well written, although I will admit that it does suffer from anything a professional 'extreme music' magazine must - namely sucking up to certain bands/labels and featuring more of what is currently trendy. However, I don't think it has declined much when I look back through issues from years ago, just what is popular has become less and less to my taste. I HATE reading things on the internet, and I can't get enough of reading about metal, so I buy Terrorizer every month. I've done the same with Zero Tolerance thus far, although I've now decided to stop. Zines are always worth a try though.....I think Brutallica is quite a good one for your taste.

altho i know jack generally about death/black metal...terroriser has always been a bit of a lifeline as i gather it covers the more popular releases each month and i agree with billy that the articles are generally well written and nice to read. ...by the way WH Smith are giving away In Flames condoms with a 'festival' special of metal hammer. i was half tempted!I'm a homo.!

Haha!
I have to say I like the way Terrorizer is written, but then, I only buy maybe four or five copies annually, usually when I have to use *shudder* public transport...
May give ti whirl when I've paid off the bill for mes New Rocks.

However, I don't think it has declined much when I look back through issues from years ago, just what is popular has become less and less to my taste. This is kind of true... Terrorizer covers what is popular fairly well, and so as it happens that I'm not a fan of 'metalcore' or arty jazz grindcore crap like Labrat or the majority of stuff on Relapse, so it's not to my taste either.... so it's kind of like me slagging Kerrang for not having an article on Lord Gore in it. I agree with what you say about ZT, I think it's worse for quality of writing than Terrorizer as a whole, but slightly less pretentious and has a slightly more relevant focus. I don't buy either unless I'm about to get on a long train journey and have forgotten a book though, they're both overpriced.

Buy Bizarre instead. And just know about metal by being a metal God. 8) Bizarre is shite! It's essentially Loaded, just a bit less obviously laddish. It's so sensationalist it's unreadable. And dsidn't it also report that the Norway church burnings were instigated by Glen Benton?

I have no idea, I never read any church burnings article, and Bizarre is great not crap, completely different to Loaded and FHM.

I remember the crap article on black metal in Bizarre! Poorly researched doesn't even do it justice!
Maybe we should turn this thread into a discussion of how godly Terrorizer (the band) were! Or perhaps I should say are, as Pete Sandoval said that there's going to be a new record!

Been reading Terrorizer for nearly 10 years now and it has broadened my musical horizons quite a bit over the years, introducing me to bands that I would never had heard about without it. Though I do agree there is too much hardcore and punk in it, but it does try hard to cover everything extreme. The articles in general are often great, but the reviews are some times pointless giving low marks on matter of principle (Like Narnias first album getting 0 just for being Christian!!, though it is a bit shit!) or big bands having their arse licked and getting high marks.
I've tried to get every copy of ZT so far and I've been very impressed, though the bi-monthlyness means that their news section is often rediculously out of date and some of their reviews and articles are writen with a severe lack of knowledge about the subject.
