I think that Nodtveidt comes across as a pretty intelligent bloke with well-considered views in interviews I've read.
But as you, say, although they're both decent live acts, their material of late has been pretty bollocks. The Dissection single was appalling, and the Megadeth album, for all the claims of a 'return to form' was basically a weak version of older stuff, but cheesier and sillier.

He's definately an intelligent bloke, but he's never said anything that I've read (although I admit I've not read a great amount of stuff by him beyond whats appeared in the mainstream press like Terrorizer, so i might be wrong) thats made me see him as anything more than a caricature. He's no Glen Benton, but I still find his satanic ranting to be immature and attention seeking.

Nooooo! It has nothing to do with pagan origins, nothing whatsoever! The brand of Satanism where the devil is worshipped bla bla is based on Christianity, because you have to believe in what you are opposing after all. The LaVey brand of Satanism is more a belief in yourself and you are your own God figure. If that's humanism then that's fair enough, but neither is pagan. /rant Remember though, Christianity stole many of its teachings, bible characters etc from Pre Christian religions, i cant remember where Satan was taken from but it raises a couple of questions. This gay "Worship Satan RAA" shit is fucking pathetic in my opinion, and just plays of the typical Christian fear manifested by themselves (if that is indeed what you meant).

The Old Testament, don't forget, is Jewish...all the characters in that are technically pre-Christian... Yes, Satan is a twisted version of the pagan Horned God, but it's been incorporated into Christianity so thoroughlly as the enemy that any Satanist of this variety is essentially playing along with this Christian viewpoint. Satanism in this respect is in opposition to Christianity, but also acknowledges the Christian God and all the rest of it, even if it despises and reviles it. Christianity, when it was trying to establish itself in this country in areas where there were strong pagan beliefs, would incorporate elements of the local beliefs to try and cover all their bases, so to speak. If that meant vilifying some aspects of it, then they weren't averse to that. But this isn't a forum to discuss theology on, and nor am I especially interested in discussing it. The amount of times the "is Satanism pagan" debate raises its ugly head on pagan forums is quite boring!

Ahh yes you reminded me, Baphomet! The olde horned God!.
Yeah Christianity degraded women, defiled Pagan alters and made up a load of stories about how evil and barbaric they were etc. Also yes i heard about the Roman Catholics keeping some Pagan festivals to make the change easier, which is why we celebrate Christmas when we do.
OK im finished talking about it now, although i dont go on Pagan forums because im not Pagan.

I was half way there with the "belief in one's intrinsic power" thing though, I guess. Anyway, as a cool link back to the metal, "They need God, I need napalm" should do it...

All I remember from Revelations apart from the Whore of Babylon is something about fowl flying in the midst of Heaven... seriously, the first case of gonzo journalism, that guy had to be on acid.
In any case, yeah RE was loadsa fun, but mainly only because of the irony of having such a retard of a teacher. For example, when I askled him to explain why Buddhism was, in his words, "inferior", he came up with "Because they have no god. And fewer followers."
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner of Biggest Douche in the Universe! Haha ;D
But in general I find the whole thing captivating. I have a strong atheist line to take, but I think that makes it even more interesting to observe the views of others. I still find it weird that the Jewish can't have meat and milk in the same place though.
