Christmas day in my house is a bit boring usually. Just me, my mom and her boyfriend. Occasionally my nan comes over if she's not visiting my uncle. The cats love the turkey. I usually just end up eating, watching films then spending the rest of the sat sitting on the sofa on my laptop.

I could easily forgo the meat side of christmas day and just eat an enormous pile of roasted vegetables instead, smothered in gravy. While I do enjoy the meat, it's all about roasted carrots, parsnips and sweet potatoes, with tons of stuffing and gravy.

Parsnips are amazing, and quintessentially British. Roast 'em up with a little honey or maple syrup, a pinch of sea salt and tonnes of black pepper - I could eat them all day long, maybe with a little jug of minted gravy on the side to dip them in.

Sprouts are also awesome. If you don't like sprouts you're just a whiney faggot in my eyes, they're great.

they're just bloody brilliant, unfortunately the anti-sprout propaganda in this country has forever tarnished their reputation!

Sprouts are fine but they're always cooked badly. I swear my mum boils them for about 4 days.
JP's right about pigs in blankets; there are few things as decadent as baconing up a sausage.
