WWE is pretty much perfectly produced. Not everything should sound like Testament Dan you massive fanny. Did I say it should sound like Testament? Not everything should sound like Funebrarum or Incantation. Besides, I like Abigor a whole lot and you can bench-press the effects on Channelling the Quintessence. Same goes for Dodheimsgard's Satanic Art, and that's one of my favourites. All I was saying is it takes a bit of getting used to at first, which I'm all for, 'cause it makes the experience more rewarding if it pays off. I'm a fan of raw production as much as I am slick production. The difference with slick production though, is that you can't mask mistakes or sloppy playing, so you have to be tight or die trying. And when you're recording it yourselves, you can't afford to do a song full of joiner takes no matter how fancy you might be at editing: it still shows in the sound. It also takes a shitload of soundie knowledge and experience, not to mention amassing decent equipment, to get industry standard recordings done by ones self. It's an art in the same way that doing raw production and getting the most out of basic equipment is. Or to use an analogy: There is equal merit to both a woodcut portrait, and a full scale, fine art, oil painting of Vlad Tepes. Each person will have their own preference, but it doesn't take away from the artist's respective abilities.

Listened to Stench of Decay this morning, and it was great.
Been listening to a dreadful PJ Harvey record at work, not good.

Which PJ Harvey record was it? I think she's written a lot of good songs, but I thought that White Chalk was the only consistently good album she did.

Dry is pretty solid, and Rid of Me is about 90% awesome. The first two albums are pretty much her best work really. She hasn't produced tunes as good as Missed, Legs, Sheela Na Gig or Dress since.

Old Wainds - Scalding cold. Forsaken - after the fall. Not sure about old wainds yet. They seem pretty raw but they don't really stand out a fat lot either. .

Playing Chinese Democracy loads. It rules. You are SO lame. Speaking of lame, what was the name of that terrible song with the catchy chorus from last week? I keep singing bits of it when my guard is down. Was it by any chance the song by the ungodly Threshold?

Grave Miasma - Exalted Emanation
Crushing release! Very atmospheric, and it does a decent job of capturing how they sound live, I think.
Also had on:
Cruciamentum - Convocation of Crawling Chaos Dead Congregation - Graves of the Archangels

Which PJ Harvey record was it? I think she's written a lot of good songs, but I thought that White Chalk was the only consistently good album she did. It was her new one. Someone had it playing on Spotify at work. It sounded like someone trying way too hard. Recently: Von - Satanic Blood Angel Sadistic Intent - Resurrection of Ancient Black Earth Grave Miasma - Exalted Emanation That Sadistic Intent album is probably one of my favourite DM releases ever. Evil and heavy.
