Recent days;
Watain - Lawless Darkness
Other than Hymn To Qayin - which doesn't seem to stick in my memory - this album is everything I hoped for and more. And it has one of the best closing tracks ever.
Also playing a hefty dose of;
Ascension - With Burning Tongues Grave Miasma - Realm of Evoked Doom Savage Grace - Master of Disguise

Shining - Blackjazz Surprisingly good stuff. Isn't it? I finally got around to listening to Swarth today. Excellent.

Two of the best albums of the year, both underrated too.

I've developed a full-on addiction to Grand Magus - Iron Will. Like The Oar Strikes The Water and I Am the North are absolutely monumental pieces of heavy metal that actually make my chest hairier as I listen.
I've only managed to spin some of the other albums I've had recently a couple of times, but honourable mentions go to The Devil's Blood - Come, Reap, Katharsis - Kruzifixxion (so, so vicious) and Enslaved - Axioma Ethica Odini. I suspect that, in the fullness of time, I shall come to really love that last one.

I Am The North is my favourite from Iron Will. They played it when I saw them last and it was fucking magnificent.
I've been listening to D666 - Ghost Dance all day, erryday.

The chorus to that song is amazing. What do you make of Hammer of the North? By comparison I think it's quite disappointing, but still a good album in its own right.

I don't think I'd describe Hammer of the North as disappointing, even if I don't like it as much as Iron Will. I'd say that the title track is the equal of anything they've written so far, including Kingslayer and As The Oar Strikes The Water. Hammer of the North doesn't offer the same quality of variations as with Iron Will, but still will make my top ten this year, I expect.
Been listening to more Blasphemophagher today, I'd love to get the new album on vinyl. Shame its long gone.

The title track is brilliant.
Today I've spun:
Von Goat - Septic Illumination Nagelfar - Strontgorrth
The former is perhaps a bit too brief and incoherent to make it truly great, but it's hugely enjoyable. It's a track-by-track affair rather than a cavernous whole, but it is brilliant.
Strontgorrth is phenomenal. It has an epic grandeur that so many albums aspire to and so few attain. Top bin.

I need to hear that album. Virus West is good, but I always heard that the earlier stuff was better.
Recently I've been obsessed by the Ghost demo. I didn't like it much at first, and the hype puts me off, but it's actually superb. Lots of plays for the new Enslaved too.

Pugnator - Caustic Mist demo
Really great demo; alternates between destructive blasting parts and more uptempo grim rocking parts, with memorable lead playing.

Strontgorrth - again. I don't care that it's a re-release, this is definitely my album of the year barring late triumphs from Negative Plane or DsO.
