Queen Adreena - Jolene
Yes, Katie Jane is a vapid, foul slag but I really like this song.

Queen Adreena - Jolene Yes, Katie Jane is a vapid, foul slag but I really like this song. Haha, I forgot that they even existed. I thought they had been banished to the alt valut of shame along with My Ruin, Jack Off Jill and Coal Chamber! I always thought she was kind of like PJ Harvey, without what made PJ Harvey any good. The Sisters of Mercy cover of the song is loads cooler! I bet I've destroyed my evil reputation now.

Oh that reputation... ;D Yeah, I always found Queen Adreena a bit crap, but again it's been a long time and maybe they sound better nowada..... actually no I just had a listen on youtube and that didn't grab me at all. Totally see what you're saying about the My Ruin scene-lump-in and the PJ Harvey comparisons. I think PJ went off the boil for a while after Rid of Me. She got better again when got over her obsession with trying to be Nick Cave and re-hired Rob Ellis (the drummer and a pretty integral part of the original sound she had). Snake River Conspiracy were the ones that really annoyed me though. Kerrang and Metal Hammer tried to put her across over here as a credible artist too. I suppose on the back of bands like Pist.on and My Ruin this wasn't quite so surprising. No wonder so many people were dismissive of Rock in general back in the mid-nineties. It wasn't the grunge "scene" that was to blame.

It certainly is! Personally I think most of the rest of his discography is good, but repeats the same trick, and I'm not into his sound enough to want to get all of it. The Judas Iscariot cover on the LP version of Telepathic... is SUPERB though.

Obtained Enslavement - Witchcraft " " - Soulblight
Each time I hear these I find something new in the arrangements and I'm still impressed by this despite the fairly melodic classic arrangements.
Somebody recently posted on FB about Hollenthon when they were talking about symphonic black metal, but I've listened to that and it sounds like a bag of cheesy willies compared to OE. It just doesn't have the classic feel and the keyboards sound silly.
