Hey all. We the reanimator organisers have been having a think about the night, and we'd like your thoughts on a few things. Which would you prefer: 1) Weekdays, Fridays or Saturdays? 2) 7-11 or 10-2? 3) Scruffies, Eddies, Mono Bar, Flapper?
Basically, the Royal George is boarded up and so we presume out of action for quite a while. We have the option of trying for a night in Scruffies (which lacks PA etc), or trying for a side room in Eddies (would be 10-2 but £5 entry), or getting some other function room.
Mono Bar is still going ahead no problems, but we are just wondering if we can change it to bring Reanimator to a wider audience and make it even better!
Are bar prices important. I try my best to get Amstel for £1.50, but people still want other beers, and other drinks and its still more expensive.
Does anyone have any ideas about places where we might be able to hold a weekend Reanimator??
Cheers for your support and input, lets make this night even better!

i'm thinking friday could be good, as aint really a great night anywhere else, and if not a weeknight 10-2 would probably be better, and scruffies would be quite cool if coul get round problems with PA, as i reckon the usual crowd down there would be the kinda people to come along!

A week night 10-2 is out of the question haha, we have jobs!! If anyone has a spare PA to borrow, then Scruffies is a maybe, as Luke already has decks and crossfader.

ok, so i missed out the , after weeknight borrowing a pa will be tricky as i found out trying to get one for costers, but might be able to get a cheap deal hiring one from the place we get ours. and if anyone does have one they're willing to lend, let me know so i can be really nice to em

Luke was thinking about buying one, but that seems quite an outlay for a reanimator night. Just proves his dedication!

I'm sure Scruffys does have a PA. There's gigs down there most days, and Saturdays they have a classic rock night.
Eddies would be a bit of a long shot, methinks.
As for times, if it's a weeknight I'd suggest 7-11, or 10-2 for a weeknight.

Try the place opposite The George. They've got a function room too.
If it's 10-2 you can kiss my ass goodbye! I have to get the train at 11!
Fridays would be good, as New Street station closes on Saturday nights for cleaning. At least if I miss the train on a Friday I can sleep in the waiting room.
As for venues, Flapper may be a bit out of the way, plus it's full of emos (or so I've been told... ;D).
Mono Bar is a good place, although pricey depending on what you drink. It's not that far from the centre of town so your turnout won't be that different, than if it was say in Costers or Scruffies. Having said that, they are both better established as Metal places.
Personally, I think Mono Bar is great. I love the video screen, the promotions (even though there are only a couple, I'm grateful for what I get, and it beats paying £3 in Eddies!), the £1 entry, the trendy decor, the fact that there is enough room to move, unlike at Bilskirnir!
Unfortunately there are only a few faces I recognise at the moment, but if you can re-entice the Bilskirnir crowd, and get people in from Costers, Scruffies etc then the numbers may double.
I don't think the lack of live bands is the reason for lower turnout than Bilskirnir, nor is the more regular occurence. I thought it may have been boozer-apathy, but to be fair it's only a quid to get in and £1.50 a drink if you're tight.
Basically I think the format and the venue are fine, and the DJs are all great, not to mention incredibly good looking. Just gotta nick punters from other nights!

I think the whole set up is really good, but just that Wednesdays are weekdays and thus hard to make for a lot of people. We have had different people each night almost, so it would be fine if they could all come along. I would just rather have a Friday or Saturday night from 7-11 or something. Cheers for the input though.

I was talking about Luke actually... ;D
I agree, Friday 7-11 sounds ideal.

I can only speak for myself, but both 7-11 and 10-2 are awkward :-D If I'm working that day (I get a random 2 days off every week) then the earliest I can get to brum is about 8 or 9. Only getting two hours of metal before closing would suck. However if I'm working the day after, then I have to get the last train back at midnight - again, only getting two hours off! I'm screwed either way - unless it's on a saturday night, as I have almost every sunday off :-)
I think Mono's a great venue, the only problem being attracting people. Unless you'd seen a flyer, you'd never turn up there - whereas a more "metal" venue would get spontaneous customers too.
The alternative (something I once looked into for our cov night) is using the sideroom at an established rock night, leaving them to play the commercial stuff that gets customers, without us metal types whinging because we get our own space :-) Again, it adds great potential for people finding out about Reanimator by accident!
