Melechesh are one of my fav bands (mainly because Proscriptor is in there from Absu fame) Don't know whereyou got the 'jewish' title from though....
Which album did you pick up? Spyhnx is the latest and def. the more 'heavier' of the lot, the one before, their first full lenght album Djinn has huge amounts of eastern influence and some killer tunes, easily my favourite, while their first 'As Jeruselum Burns...' is just pure out black metal. Great band, everyone should check them out ..NOW and Nick I hope you managed to check out Defleshed or I'll be forced to ermmm..do something.

because the music has an influence that sounds a lot like traditional jewish music. id assumed that was the influence/concept of the band? but then i know nothing about them as the c.d i have is a cdr someody did for me without sleeves etc. Melechesh are one of my fav bands (mainly because Proscriptor is in there from Absu fame) Don't know whereyou got the 'jewish' title from though.... dude it's not jewish, they're HEAVILY mesopotamian influenced, old syrrian, assuryain stlye stuff. Hmm does it have a long intro that really sounds like an arabian tune? or does it kick into a full on fast metal tune? Could tell you the album that way.

Back on topic, Sphinx is damn good, but I thought that the two albums before were dull as hell. Absu on the other hand....Tara is a masterpiece and everything before is interesting at worst - his drumming is something special to behold indeed.

I've never heard this band as I always thought they'd be similar to Nile, who sadly I find boring most of the time (ie when they aren't filling their tracks with novelty instruments) People who know my tastes, is it worth checking out?

Luke CHECK THEM OUT! They are NOTHING like nile, the lyrics, the music, the layout is sooooooo much better then nile's attempt at doing egyptian style metal. Melechesh are the definative mesopotaniam metal, they actualyl sound like the ancients playing metal hehe. Rawhide the album with those songs on is Sphynx, probably the most liked of the three, I still hold that Djinn is the best .
Absu are def. amazing and Tara is godly, still have to pick up the early albums. will do so at Wacken.
