The little Asian guy who clings onto the Nathrakh/Scruffies crew. Always in Scruffies.

Dan P - not having a go at you here, mate, but people seem to think it's ok to hate Varg Vikernes because he's racist, homophobic, ultra-conservative, narrow-minded, open-minded, Jew hating, Christ loving, Paki bashing or whatever but who really cares. Can it never be about the music anymore? Varg clearly just loves winding people up.

The thing with Varg is that it's hardly news, and there are far more relevant targets if you're bothered about racism and homophobia. By all means disagree with him - I damn sure do - but he's a musician, so the only interest I have in him is as a musician. I don't want to be his mate.
Nick Griffin, on the other hand...

Getting back to the film, varg came off very well; humourous and very charming. His description of the events of that fatefull night were very amusing. His choice of words have to be heard to be believed. I thought it was the most genuinely entertaining part of the movie.
As others have said, anyone with more than a passing knowledge of BM will have already heard most of the anecdotes, but it was nice to hear them from the horses mouths.
Immortal were very cool too.

The thing with Varg is that it's hardly news, and there are far more relevant targets if you're bothered about racism and homophobia. By all means disagree with him - I damn sure do - but he's a musician, so the only interest I have in him is as a musician. I don't want to be his mate. I agree. Although I find his views absolutely reprehensible, I can't give enough of a shit about them to argue against them. Ultimately the music of Varg far outweighs the retardedness of his political views. Unfortunately it's the opposite for many NSBM bands. Furthermore, he's neither a political nor an intellectual heavy-weight, so there's even less to get annoyed about. I do find it a bit odd though that some people get protective of Burzum and Varg(not people on here btw), as though there's some kind of religious-level of importance to his stuff. There really isn't a great deal of substance to it other than the romanticised image of Varg being this Satanic/Asatru/Nazi/fill-in-the-blank-because-he-keeps-changing-his-mind Warrior that lead such a rebel life. In everyday reality, all it translated to was that the guy was involved in some gang-related terrorism for a while, sending people mail-bombs and whatnot and then decided to murder one of his band-colleagues because the guy had no honour. Despite it really all just being a bit lame, I think some people still wish they had the balls to be like that and not care, and that's why they're so in thrall to him. People seem to have given him Carte Blanche over the years, because we're all just waiting for him to be able to make music again. He can do funny interviews where he recounts the time when he stabbed his "very nervous" ex-pal however many times until he dropped dead, and how he found a shitty strap-on dildo in his bedroom, and he can also make the odd prison-break attempt. It's all just like a movie to us since we're just getting the news from afar. I'm not just saying this to be PC and whinge, I've probably been as guilty of this attitude as anyone else. I think the nearest thing we'd have in this country is if Gary Glitter made a musical comeback and became a big-time star again. He could recount the time when he played night-night's with little Phuong-Anh-Lam or whoever, in a feature length doc about the UK underground Glam Rock scene. You can just hear Noddy Holder going: "...then we heard that Marc Bolan had banged an 11 yr old girl in the arse while her Daddy slept in the other room, and we was all shocked because we didn't think he had the balls to do something like that. And he went ass-to-mouth! I was proper impressed." Burzum at it's best has incredible atmosphere and some of the most amazing vocals in Black Metal, but some of the music was laughable, and some of it was just plain boringly simplistic. Aside from Hvis Lysett I found Burzum was always a bit hit and miss really. On teh flip side, I've been in the position of trying to defend Burzum from people that think buying the music is just giving money to nazi's, or from people bashing the music that simply don't get what's good about it. Both scenarios suck equal amounts of unwashed Horse Chestnuts. Perhaps I should just grow some balls and send some fan-girl round their houses with a spray-bottle of Acetone and a box of matches while they're out.
