You're only allowed to pick one.

Luke, good choice with Conan!
I don't think I could ever pick a favourite, it depends on my mood. I guess it could be a toss up between Rambo 2, Star Trek 2, The Beyond, O Brother Where Art Thou, and Downfall. I couldn't say which though!

Leaning towards The Wind That Shakes The Barley at the moment. I also have a weird love for Titanic. Maybe because Kate Winslett gets her norks out. T'riffic set of norks, that lass.

It's definitely context dependent. A couple of other favourites of mine are Requiem for a Dream and Brick.

Alien is a stunning film, arguably my favourite horror film ever. I don't think it's possible to forget that chest burster scene. The xenomorph design was such a labour of love for Giger, too; he was heartbroken (and really pissed off) when they dropped him for the later films. Weirdly, they asked Joss Whedon (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame) to design some models.
Actually, I might have to get the quadrilogy and then throw out the fourth and fifth films.

Actually, I might have to get the quadrilogy and then throw out the fourth and fifth films. Good effort for a quadrilogy. I was tempted to get the complete Alien and Predator box set, then I realised that I only wanted three out of the eight films. Maybe Alien 3 at a push, so I can imagine what Fincher might have done with it had they actually given him a script. I would have agreed that Alien is the greatest horror ever, if only The Thing wasn't marginally better.

I always consider Alien and The Thing to be more sci-fi than horror. Both are great films, but in terms of horror come nowhere near the classic Italian stuff.

I'm not very well-versed in classic Italian horror, sadly. I think Alien 3 is a flawed masterpiece; you can tell there's a brilliant film in there, but that it's been cocked up along the way. And I've yet to see The Thing all the way through!
I'll always class Alien as a horror film, because it's so bloody scary. I also think Event Horizon is one of the scariest films I've ever seen; "you can't leave... she won't let you..." *shudder*

For Italian stuff you need the (un)holy trinity:
The Beyond House By The Cemetary City of the Living Dead
I've got to say that I've never really found horror films that scary. As a kid my parents were always really strict about what I could watch so I never saw any horror films until a friends dad rented out The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for us when we were about 14-15, which actually did really scare me. After that, nothing has ever bothered me. The only thing that really gets me is more normal stuff like the part in Hellraiser when the guy cuts his hand on the nail, that actually makes me feel sick which is weird! I thought because of that Saw would really appeal to me, but the first one is the only film I've ever walked out of.

I prefer Aliens to Alien but you can't deny both of them are awesome. Alien 3 and 4 are utter tripe. Second Dan's three horror movies above, fucking amazing! I'm a big fan of horror but have rarely found a film that 'horrified' me. I'm not interested in gore so much, especially in modern movies where its all slick and almost poronographic in an attempt to get an increasingly jaded audience off. For me the best horrors are ones that prey on your imaginination.
I have seen a few films that I have found uncomfortable and horrific to watch, but I'd usually put that down to good direction. Man Bites Dog I couldn't sit through and Funny Games is a very unpleasant watch indeed.

Also, I was only watching The Thing the other night, I love it. Seriously big and / or nerdy fans of the film should check out www.outpost31.com
