This weekend I've consumed an excessive amount of both wine and beer, had two curries, a rich seafood pasta meal and a prawn baguette and my body hates me.
I have however had an excellent weekend, which will be continuing with seeing In The Loop tonight.

Jess has some mates over and they're going through various best of the 90s albums. I am suffering beyond belief. I had to leave the room after 4 people tried to convince me that Ash is a great band.

I'm quite into the early Ash stuff, and they've always had some cracking singles.

However I will never allow you to insult my music taste now I know you like Ash who are up there with Radiohead and Oasis as one of the blandest bands on the face of the planet. Ash's music stirs so little emotion in me that they make me angry for that reason. ;D This weekend, potenital camping and boozing depending on the weather. Anyone else fancy it?

I couldn't care less about Ash, and I like some Radiohead stuff but 110% agreed on Oasis. Moronic, knuckle-dragging chart 'indie' for Carling drinkers and people with stupid 60's haircuts.

I'll throw a spanner in the works regarding Oasis. Some of their last few albums have some outstanding tracks, the best of which has to be "Gas Panic". The song drips with regret and paranoia. Love it.

Yes, Oasis should advertise themselves as "music for cunts". Radiohead themselves don't wind me up so much, other than their singer who is a prick with a voice like nails dragging down a blackboard. Their fans and press wind me up more, I've listened to them, desperatly trying to see what is so forward thinking and allegedly "prog rock" about them, and I can't see it at all. Average indie with unremarkable lyrics, and the odd keyboard does not make for either enjoyable listening, or forward thinking music in my books. If it floats your boat, then that's fair enough, but I'm sick of people labelling them as progressive. That's no different to the current wave of screamo and metalcore bands labelling themselves as death metal.

Weeks plan: being in Edinburgh and drink some local Ales and bitter and eat britsh food. Hooray for Edinburgh! I've been trying to arrange to get up there later in May, but it's not working out - none of the flights work out in my favour, the train is too expensive and I'm damn well not driving it.

That's no different to the current wave of screamo and metalcore bands labelling themselves as death metal. Radiohead is progressive in that it's forward thinking, experimental and challenging music with complex/unusual structures and varied use of experimentation. 'Progressive' is just a bit of a catch all term for bands in the 70s that rejected a lot of traditional rock values/cliches, much in the same way that Radiohead have done. Labelling much of the last four albums as 'average indie' just really shows that you haven't listened to them. The Enemy are an average indie band; Radiohead are not, like their music or not.

Well, to be honest OK Computer is the last thing I heard by them, and one track off their last album that my indie loving friend played me. I understand that "progressive" can be often misconstrued as a term that describes Yes or Genesis rather than just music that is progressive, but from the Radiohead I have heard, I just don't see how that term applies to them. I'll go as far as saying that there aren't really any bands that sound like Radiohead, but that's mainly down to his horrible singing voice. All their songs meander and don't really lead anywhere and just come across as dismal, and not in a good way. There is just nothing particularly interesting about the instrumentation or musicianship, the whole thing just strikes me as very, very bland and boring. Creep for instance to me just sounds like a very average, boring pop song. It's got a very formulaic structure, 4/4 time signature, average instrumentation - there's nothing progressive there. Since you've mentioned the last four albums, which I've not heard perhaps they changed from that point? Eitherway, they're still wank

Yeah everything from Kid A on is quite unusual and interesting. It's not as whiny and woe-is-me as their earlier stuff.

Edinburgh is a single road construction site, don't know how they can drive around here ;-) Weather is great, Black Rose is very ccol. Today we took a coach tour to Loch Ness and the Higlands. During the ride they told some stories about Scotland, mainly Massacres and other gory violent Stuff ;-) Tomorrow is Beltain Fire Festival, hope to get some tickets for it.
