The bands were definitely too loud. It was actually painful to be stood anywhere near the stage, which is a shame because I did actually want to properly watch one of the bands.
And the hour of whatever genre of music which was played after the bands, that needed to be more varied I think. After a couple of hours of pretty extreme, fast, loud and heavy stuff, something to lighten it up a bit would possibly have enticed more of the crowd to hang about for another pint and a chat, rather than scarpering straight away.
I'm all for heavy metal pass the parcel though!

This has been a bit of a topic of debate for the Reanimator team, actually.... I played the first hour, and with the exception of one track near the start (Impaled) and one at the end (a Neil Young cover) everything I played was a request. It was, in the main, a load of brutal DM however. What does everyone else think about the DJing afterwards? Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming!

I like the DJing - keep it heavy. This is an extreme metal night, after all.

Sorry I had to run off staight after, so missed the DJ'ing at the end, but I agree with Charlotte I go to hear stuff that would not be played elsewhere. To quote Fuck... I'm Dead "You into Metal?" "...As long as it's Heavy" BTW any chance you could post the setlists on the board

You can keep it extreme, but there are more types of metal than just "too much of a racket to try and talk over, so I'll get the last bus home instead". Surely it'd be better to have more of a mix and keep loads of people in than satisfy the few who only want the same song played 57 different ways all night.

I'm sure the Reanimator dudes will make the right decision as to the right mix of music. Can't please all the people all the time.

Can you give some examples of what you'd like to hear then? Perhaps you could write these in the request thread

I agree completely, but since there's so much variety in metal, it makes just as little sense to only stick to one specific type, and fair enough it probably got more varied throughout the night, but after that first hour of stuff which all sounded the same, we'd thoroughly had enough and left anyway.
If the first few songs give a taster of what can be heard throughout the whole night, more people will stick around to see what's going to be played throughout the whole night, rather than giving up on it.

I think the problem is that if a lot of Death Metal is requested, and one person picks up on that because it's in their collection, then when that person DJs there will be a larger proportion of Death Metal in their set.
It'd be nice to try and spread the requests throughout the whole night if possible. However, if a lot of Death Metal is requested, as it was, then I for one wouldn't be able to cater to much of it. Luke on the other hand would, and since he was on first that type of request dominated the setlist.
I agree though that music can still be extreme and heavy, but also varied. But as Mr Hellion points out, if people do want a diverse playlist, please let us know in advance or bring a CD along. Same goes for the sound. If it's too loud during the gig, why does no one either tell us, or tell the sound guy?
