Played this evening:
Diabolicum - The Dark Blood Rising Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky (I've lost my copy of Transylvanian Hunger, for fuck's sake. I've got the case but no CD)
And warming up to Isengard - Vinterskugge

I've had to stop listening to that album for a little while; I've grossly over-played it. I'll dig it back out again when other albums have had sufficient air time.
The Amenta - Occasus
OK, so they all look like poofs and the vocals are banal. But as an album, I think this is a lot better than Zyklon's Disintegrate. It's got a lot of Fear Factory-esque a-tonal monotonous blasting with a fat Aussie bastard shouting on top of it but then you get some interesting industrial atmospherics, and - shock horror - a bit of melody.

Haha, yeah I over played it a bit, it's been a couple of months since I last listened to it, and it's still as good as I remember.
So what's your opinion on industrial/martial stuff like early C93, Puissance, Der Blutharsch etc?

I don't know any of them! I'll give them a listen later and let you know.
A while ago I was buying up just about every industrial metal release I could get my hands on - Blacklodge, Aborym, Mysticum, Diabolicum, Apollyon Sun... but then I sort of realised that the vast majority of it is total, utter gash. It was like bands with no understanding of electro decided that they'd just stick some in when they couldn't think of anything else to do, and it's bloody awful.
But the thing is, when a band gets it right, I think it's devestating. Red Harvest's Sick Transit Gloria Mundi is an absolute masterpice, as is Aborym's Fire Walk With Us! and Zyklon's World ov Worms. I think you can create a really dense, forboding atmosphere with the proper use of synths and given that I'm a big fan of dystopian literature, it just sits really well with me.

Today I have been playing (and am currently playing) the new Wildhearts CD 'Chutzpah' and I can't wait to see em again in December. The new CD is amazing, it's like metal haunted by the ghost of The Cars. And yes, that IS a good thing. ;D

Maybe I'll have to try out some of those. To be honest, (I think it was) Blacklodge are the main thing that put me off it. Generally I'm not a huge fan of sterile sounding metal, I've always felt that clinical sounding metal is a bit of an oxymoron and I've never been a fan of dance music, so all the "unsk-unsk" bass drum samples and stuff just annoy me. As for the bands I recommended - check out these: Current 93 - Lucifer Over London (much more folky than their earlier stuff, but easily my favourite, however Dog's Blood Rising is worth checking out for their industrial side) Puissance - Let Us Lead Der Blutharsch - Time Is Thee Enemy

Cheers mate, I'll make sure I do.
A lot of bands like Blacklodge and Diabolicum just use a fake drum sound and throw in some dodgy trance beats, and to be honest, it gets old very quickly. But I definitely recommend Red Harvest - Sick Transit Gloria Mundi and A Greater Darkness. I also really like Spektr - Near Death Experience.
NP: Genesis - Home By The Sea

I have a real hard time with those 80s/90s albums, some of them have some really great songs and when I hear them I do enjoy them, but I can't help feel that Phil Collins' main talent is behind the drum kit. They are great for what they are, which is enjoyable pop songs, bur really they don't come close to Foxtrot and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Disclaimer - Phil Collins solo records and some of the most horrible things put to tape. For solo projects only Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel are real.
