Got the Temple of Bizarre Cult demo and that is CRUSHING. Need to check out their other releases asap. Very underrated band. The new one is a rehearsal demo, so the quality isn't as good as Temple... but it's still very good for a rehearsal. The songs are a lot darker on the new one! I've got a copy here for you anyway! The songs are DARKER?! Extremely eager to hear this one.

They have a new drummer now, Covan is still obviously fucked up.

NP: Celtic Frost - Monotheist
I've been playing this a lot lately. Drown in Ashes, Os Abysmi Vel Daath, Obscured and Ain Elohim are utterly devestating tracks, particularly Obscured, which features one of the most simple but powerful vocal harmonies I've ever heard.

Yeah, Monotheist is a cracking album! I always seem to chose Morbid Tales over it, but when I do listen to it, it constantly astounds me as to what a great album it actually is!

Swallowed shirt About to order Machetazo/Winters in Osaka 7". Been too long since the last Machetazo release, even if this isn't really a proper one.

I had Amon Amarth - With Oden on Our Side on this morning, largely for Jess' benefit. There are many superior bands to Amon Amarth, but there are many, many inferior ones, too.

I feel quite recationary about Amon Amarth now they're beloved of Metal Hammer readers and other people that think taking a plastic sword to a gig is acceptable, but I'm always surprised by how good their stuff is when I hear it. Like you say not brilliant by any stretch but pretty enjoyable stuff.

They're not a particularly "likeable" band, it has to be said. It's usually fine as background music and I think it's pretty good to drive to, as well.
Incidentally, Jess tried to convince me to buy a pirate sword at the (amazing) Sea Life Centre to take to Bloodstock ;D

I would agree about the background music aspect. My Dad did me a copy of the latest album, makes for good background listening but I wouldn't ever put it on and actually listen to it, if that makes sense.
